AAFP chapters make it convenient for AAFP members to access relevant information and focused resources right where they live and work. The AAFP has a chapter for each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Uniformed Services, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
Chapters provide a variety of benefits to members, with each chapter offering its own menu of benefits, including local and regional continuing medical education (CME), networking, and mentoring opportunities. Many members who are involved in leadership positions at the chapter level advance to hold national leadership positions by serving on an AAFP commission, task force, or the national Board. Chapters also help to advance the specialty of family medicine by advocating to local and state legislators. To find out the variety of benefits your chapter offers, search the chapter directory and contact your chapter.
AAFP membership is unified, which means that members are required to belong to the national AAFP and to their appropriate chapter.
Chapter and local dues vary by membership type and by chapter. If a member relocates to the jurisdiction of another chapter, his or her chapter dues amount may change. Learn about the cost of national, chapter, and local chapter dues according to your membership type below, or find more information about membership types.
Two members from each AAFP chapter serve as delegates to the AAFP Congress of Delegates, which is the organization’s policy-making body. AAFP members can submit resolutions requesting that their chapter or national organization take action on issues that they would like to see addressed. The resolutions are considered first at the chapter level. Chapter leadership determines whether resolutions should be submitted to the AAFP Congress of Delegates.
