General Awards

These awards recognize individuals and organizations who are deemed to have made exceptional advances in furthering the strategic objectives of the Academy. This program assists AAFP members and staff, as well as constituent chapters, to identify, select and recommend appropriate forms of recognition for exceptional initiatives or efforts that benefit Family Medicine.

The AAFP Office of Governance tracks all awards given by the organization and maintains records of previous recipients, award citations and photographs of actual awards for reference.

  • AAFP Award for National Leadership in Government Service

    This award commends exceptional individual leadership.

  • Outstanding Service Award

    This award recognizes vendors, suppliers and companies that support the medical profession or their employees, and members of the AAFP national staff who have fostered the mission of Family Medicine through contributions of time, effort or resources.

  • President's Award

    This award honors exemplary dedication to the improvement of health care through the advancement of the objectives and purposes of the AAFP, as outlined in the Academy Bylaws.

  • Public Health Award

    This award recognizes extraordinary contributions to the American public's health.

  • Award of Merit

    This award recognizes people who have been deemed by the Board to have contributed to the advancement of Family Medicine.

  • Honorary Membership

    This award recognizes outstanding service to the AAFP or the medical profession.

  • John G. Walsh Award for Lifetime Contributions to Family Medicine

    This award recognizes dedication and leadership that furthers the development of Family Medicine.
