Jack Chou, MD, FAAFP
Jack Chou, MD, FAAFP, a family physician in Baldwin Park, California, is a member of the board of directors of the American Academy of Family Physicians. The AAFP represents 120,900 physicians and medical students nationwide.
As an AAFP board member, Chou advocates on behalf of family physicians and patients nationwide to inspire positive change in the U.S. health care system.
Chou has been a practicing family physician at Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park Medical Center for more than 15 years and has been the center’s physician in charge since 2006. He also currently serves as an assistant professor of physician assistant education at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California.
A member of the AAFP since 1992, Chou has served on numerous commissions and committees, including the Commission on Quality and Practice, and the Commission on Membership and Member Services. He served as California’s delegate to the AAFP Congress of Delegates for four years and was alternate delegate for five years. He also served as a minority delegate and minority alternate delegate to the Congress in 2003 and 2002, respectively.
At the state level, Chou is an active member of the California Academy of Family Physicians and has held numerous leadership positions, including president and speaker of the California AFP Congress of Delegates. He also is an active member of the Los Angeles Academy of Family Physicians where he has served as president, vice president and secretary-treasurer, and is currently serving on the board of the California Medical Association. During residency, Chou served as president of the residents of the California AFP.
Throughout his career, Chou has received several awards. In 2015, he was named Family Physician of the Year for Southern California Permanente Medical Group, and in 2011, he was named Physician of the Year and awarded the Service Extraordinaire Award by Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park Medical Center. He was also named Philanthropist of the Year by the California Academy of Family Physicians Foundation in 2006.
Chou was raised in a small rural town in Taiwan. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Miami, Florida, and his medical degree from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. He completed his family medicine residency at Kaiser Permanente Woodland Hills Family Medicine Residency in Woodland Hills, California.
Chou is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and has the AAFP Degree of Fellow, an earned degree awarded to family physicians for distinguished service and continuing medical education.
