CME and CNE Credit Approval
Course Approval and Accreditation
After sponsor submits their ALSO Course Request form and receives an approval email from ALSO staff, they are required to submit the online CME Application at www.aafp.org/cmea . This must be done, not only for CME/CNE credit, but also to ensure all participants/faculty records are updated and certificates and wallet cards are created for them. Note: There is no charge to apply for CME for ALSO courses.
Continuing Medical Education (CME)
During the CME application process the sponsor will download a brochure or schedule that must include the lectures and workstations and the time frames for each. From this schedule, CME credit will be figured and an approval email from the Credit Systems and Compliance staff will be sent to the submitter. The statement and credits awarded in the email will need to be included on all promotions.
If CME approval is pending at the time of promotion, you may use the following statement on your materials until you receive the approval letter:
Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending.
Continuing Nursing Education (CNE)
CNE credit is figured from the same CME application the sponsor submits (as stated above). The CNE statement will also be included on the approval email from the Credit Systems and Compliance staff.
The CNE statement MUST be included on all promotions (brochure, flyers, emails, etc.) if the course is open to nurses and copies of the promotion must to emailed to ALSO staff to have on file to meet the Kansas State Board of Nursing (KSBN) requirements.
Kansas State Board of Nursing (KSBN) Approval
The ALSO Program was approved for CNE by the Kansas State Board of Nursing. The only requirement of an ALSO Sponsor is to complete and return the Nurse Roster within one week of course:
- Type nurse participant name
- Alphabetize names
- Nurse participant provides signature both days
- Scan/email to the ALSO Staff within one week of course completion.
The Nurse Roster is provided to sponsors on the ALSO Course Materials CD-ROM. The roster meets the requirements of two stated sections of the Nurse Practice Act Statutes and Administrative Regulations:
60-9-107 (f) (1) Each provider shall maintain documentation to verify that each participant attended the offering. The provider shall require each participant to sign a daily roster, which shall contain the following information:
A) The provider's name, address, provider number, and coordinator.
B) The date and title of the offering, and the presenter or presenters; and
C) The participant's name and license number, and the number of contact hours awarded.
60-9-107 (3) Each approved single offering CNE provider shall submit to the board the original signature roster and a typed, alphabetized roster of individuals who have completed an offering.
The Nurse Roster replaces past Nurse Attendance Verification forms and copies of the COI forms are no longer required to be sent to ALSO Staff.
If the Nurse Roster is not completed and returned within one week of the course, the nurse attendees will get a certificate of completion, but will not be qualified to receive the CNE offered by attending your course.
