As a growing organization with an increasingly diverse membership, we are committed to allowing all members to have a voice in the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). To support this ongoing effort, the AAFP Board of Directors convened a task force that was charged with examining how issues that affect specific segments of the membership could be raised and addressed effectively. In April 2014, the Board approved the task force’s recommendation that AAFP member interest groups should be established as a way to define, recognize, and engage groups of AAFP active members who have shared professional interests.
Member interest groups provide a forum for AAFP active members with shared professional interests. Group members have the opportunity to do the following:
Applications to create a member interest group must be submitted to the AAFP’s Commission on Membership and Member Services (CMMS).
The CMMS uses the following criteria when reviewing a member interest group application:
If all criteria are met, the CMMS may recommend that the AAFP Board of Directors approve establishment of the proposed member interest group.
