Description of Program

On-site and field clinics in rural Honduras providing routine sick care as well as community development, water filtration project, child health and nutrition services, and cervical cancer screening to locals.

Location(s) of program: Pinares, Intibuca, Honduras.

Description of field experience: Multidisciplinary seven- to 14-day brigades of 15 to 40 persons to staff an established clinic, with some hiking to remote locations for overnight field clinics.

Description of didactics: Core lecture series in residency plus brigade-specific preparation.

Cost to individual resident: Scholarships available to cover costs of brigade fees; $500-600 travel costs.

Number of residents who have participated in the last two years: 5

Description of faculty involvement: Two faculty members have been practice champions for development of this program, which is still in the early stages.

Does the program accept residents from outside the program for trips? No

Approximate time of year/duration of trips: Currently three brigades a year: Residents in late January, first-year medical students in June, and third- and fourth-year students in October.
