Florida Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program
Description of Program
Florida Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program in Orlando, Florida sponsors several medical trips every year. We have a four week outpatient family medicine rotation in Guam in the South Pacific. We have a colposcopy trip to Mexico where we perform over 400 colposcopies in one week, to include cryotherapy and LEEP with local physicians. Additionally, we have had periodic trips to locations like Bangladesh, Ecuador, Ghana, and Haiti. We are a missions focused program.

Description of field experience:
- Guam – outpatient family medicine with a board certified physician.
- Mexico – outpatient GYN trip with Women’s Health Fellowship Fellow and our Faculty. Perform pap smears, colposcopy, cryotherapy, and LEEP as indicated.
- Ecuador – outpatient family medicine
- Bangladesh – outpatient family medicine
- Ghana – outpatient family medicine
- Haiti – disaster medicine
Description of didactics: As available in the field. Precepted encounters with indigenous cultures and diagnoses.
Cost to individual resident: Trips are fully funded by the rotation site (Guam) or by the Florida Hospital Foundation with donations from the community and prior alumni. We have incredible support with 35 years of history and > 500 graduates.
Number of residents who have participated in the last two years: Twenty.
Description of faculty involvement: Faculty see patients with residents and precept encounters. Upper level residents see patients independently and perform many procedures.
