Description of Program

Residents schedule electives at international sites. They arrange for a preceptor to accompany them or have one on-site. There are no regularly scheduled rotations internationally. The preceptor fills out the rotations. Sites of work include Kenya, Peru, Germany, Japan -- both military and non-military sites. Objectives/goals are agreed upon by the PD, preceptor and resident. Evaluation is based on these objectives.

Location(s) of program: As above. The resident has an area of interest and coordinates with other organizations/individuals to create educational experience in coordination with the Faculty Team Chief and PD.

Description of field experience: Humanitarian relief; usually 2-4 weeks long.

Description of didactics: Essentially all experiential. Didactics are built into Residency curriculum.

Cost to individual resident: $2,000

Description of faculty involvement: Residency faculty and other departmental faculty or international faculty serve as preceptors.
