Description of Program
Location(s) of program: The OSU Rural Program is located within a small town group private practice in west-central Ohio, about an hour from Columbus, Ohio.
Description of field experience: We do not sponsor an international program, but encourage our residents to take a "sabbatical" elective in the course of their residency, patterned after a sabbatical policy in the private practice group. This year, residents have gone to Prague, Czech Republic, and Cameroon, French West Aftrica. These are one month in duration and constructed by the residents, with advice from faculty.
Description of didactics: Variable; we also involve medical students on rotation here in an interactive international bulletin board with students on rural rotation in Australia.
Cost to individual resident: Financial support is available from both the Graduate Medical Education office and the Office for Global Health at OSU, as well as from the Mary Rutan Foundation, an endowment fund in our community.
