Description of Program

Elective rotations are available in your second and third years and can be used for international rotations. 

Location(s) of international program: Planned rotations in various locations or as planned by the resident.

Description of field experience: International rotations can be taken as one month in second year and one month in third year – can also be taken as two-week rotation. Field experiences are available on all continents. Some are direct, hands-on mission work, while others are assessment visits with other opportunities also available.

Description of didactics: No formal didactics are scheduled. For those who are going to participate in an international rotation through the program there are additional meetings that are held prior to departure. 

Cost to individual resident: There are scholarships available within the department and institution to support some of the travel expenses. Residents may utilize their annual CME funds to pay for international rotations (PGY2-$1,000, PG3-$1,000). Remaining costs are the responsibility of the resident.

Description of faculty involvement: All faculty are available in the advisory capacity, while several faculty have been actively involved in international work and have numerous contacts globally.

Does the program accept residents from outside the program for trips? No

Approximate time of year/duration of trips: Year round opportunities are available, but must work out with the residents’ schedule.
