Description of Program
St. Boniface Haiti Foundation sponsors a hospital and ambulatory medical clinic in the south-central region of Haiti, Fond des Blancs. The 32-bed hospital and adjoining clinic has 45,000 patient visits a year served by a combination of visiting physicians and local Haitian physician staff.
Location(s) of program: Saint Boniface Hospital is located in the south-central region of Fond des Blancs, Haiti.
Description of field experience: Residents can choose to accompany a surgical team to St. Boniface Hospital (typically one week), or work with the family physicians in providing primary care services. The residents can stay for one to five weeks, and housing and meals are provided on the hospital grounds.
Description of didactics: The local Haitian physician staff focus on teaching about the unique health issues in this rural area of the western hemisphere's poorest country.
Cost to individual resident: We typically have grants from local practicing physicians to cover the cost of residents travel and expenses, making it free for the resident.

Description of faculty involvement: Our faculty have been involved in primary care and surgical trips. The residents may also go independently to provide medical services at the clinics alongside the Hatitian staff physicians.

Does the program accept residents from outside the program for trips? No
Approximate time of year/duration of trips: Various trips leave throughout the year, seven to eight times per year. Residents can also travel with administrators and support staff that frequently travel between Jacksonville and Fond des Blancs.
