Description of Program
Elective opportunities to participate in one of several medical missions that the York community sponsors. The resident will provide medical care to the local population as a team member and under the supervision of an identified mentor.
Location(s) of program: India, Central America
Description of field experience: Field experience may include primarily outpatient or combined inpatient and outpatient care. Maximum duration is one month, but more typically it is up to two weeks.
Description of didactics: Mentoring by identified supervisor is flexible and adapted to the specific setting. The resident is expected to prepare a conference presentation upon return. Prior to departure, the resident is expected to research the social and political culture of the destination, the health care delivery challenges, and the common medical conditions that will be encountered.
Cost to individual resident: Educational allowance funds can be used up to the resident's limit. Additional costs are the responsibility of the resident.

Description of faculty involvement: A faculty member is assigned to help coordinate the experience. Depending on the destination, a full-time faculty member may also participate in the experience.

Approximate time of year/duration of trips: Varies throughout the year. The annual mission to India is in January.
