Participate in this Member Interest Group (MIG) for providers interested in the intersection of primary care and public health, highlighting the work of family physicians and family medicine residents in the community.

Objectives

  • Create a forum to share ideas and best practices among providers interested in the intersection of primary care and public health.
  • Highlight family physicians' work in the community, as well as community health work done by family medicine residents.
  • Support and encourage AAFP policies which support familiy physician involvement in public health efforts and address the social determinants of health.
  • Help the AFP develop stronger partnerships with other organizations interested in the health of the public.
  • Support population health work and management. 
  • Assist the AAFP in membership recruitment and retention of family physicians who are interested in community health.

Long-term Goals

  • Develop a group of like-minded family physicians who are devoted to community health.
  • More formally highlight the intersection of primary care and public health.
  • Adovcate for the identification of social determinants of health and the addressal of these health factors for our patients.
  • Formalize relationships with other publich health-oriented national organizations.
  • Create a national leadership award for physicians who excel in the realm of community health.
