Antiobiotic Resistance, Food Production and Human Health

The American Academy of Family Physicians supports and advocates for measures which:

  1. reduce antibiotic use in food production;
  2. advocate for a requirement of proof of efficacy and a positive cost/benefit analysis for any antibiotics used in food production with the analysis taking into account the ultimate costs to human health care with such analysis to include not only including economic but morbidity and mortality costs; and
  3. support on the Federal level, legislation intended to accomplish these measures.
