The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) supports that all babies, with rare exceptions, should be breastfed and/or receive expressed human milk exclusively in the first six months, and this should continue with complementary foods as long as mutually desired. Family medicine training programs should, therefore, promote and support institutional policies to provide appropriate accommodations to allow trainees to securely breastfeed and/or express breast milk as needed during designated duty hours.
