The American Academy of Family Physicians believes that medical staff membership and hospital privileges should be granted on the basis of the individual physician's documented training and/or experience, demonstrated abilities and current competence.
The AAFP is opposed to the use of specialty board certification as the sole or an exclusionary criterion in determining medical staff membership. (1990) (2009 CoD)
