Physicians from a Variety of Specialties Contribute to Variety of AFP
American Family Physician is designed to provide information on a broad spectrum of topics, just as family physicians need to be knowledgeable about a variety of conditions and diseases. Much like family physicians who consult subspecialists when appropriate, the editors of AFP consult experts in many disciplines to ensure that the content is up to date and pertinent to a variety of practices.
These experts are involved in the development of AFP in several ways. Some participate in the peer review process for manuscripts specific to their area of expertise. Others serve on the Editorial Advisory Board, a group of experts invited by Jay Siwek, M.D., editor of AFP, to provide ongoing support and information to him and the other medical editors. One of the primary responsibilities of serving on this board is to alert AFP editors when specialty organizations develop or revise guidelines that may be of interest to family physicians. In addition, they are asked to write or solicit one manuscript each year.
The members of the Editorial Advisory Board, many of whom are family physicians, volunteer their valuable time. Unfortunately, we rarely get the opportunity to thank them appropriately. The physicians listed below are the current members of the AFP Editorial Advisory Board. They serve as liaisons to their specialties and the organizations they represent. We thank them for their ongoing support and feedback.
