LISA D. INGE, PharmD, BCPS, and JOHN W. WILSON, MD
Screening options for latent

release assays. Nine months of isoniazid is the treatment of choice for most
patients with latent tuberculosis infection; active disease requires

471 Glucosamine
STEPHEN DAHMER, MD, and ROBERT M. SCHILLER, MD
Glucosamine is a popular dietary
supplement used to treat osteoarthritis, particularly of the knee. Although
study results have been conflicting, there is no clear evidence to recommend
against its use. It is reasonable to support a 60-day trial of glucosamine
sulfate, especially in patients at risk of secondary effects from other
accepted treatment regimens.
