This course provides an overview of family medicine obstetrics, or maternity care. Students are given the opportunity to participate in the care of the pregnant woman both in the clinic and the hospital. The student is assigned to call one time per week. Additionally, the student will be given time to research one topic of interest and complete a one-page summary.

During this course students will participate in the family medicine residency inpatient teaching service. This service consists of a variety of patients including pediatrics, obstetrics, geriatrics, and other adult patients. Supervision and teaching are provided by a family medicine faculty who participate daily in didactic teaching, X-ray rounds, and hospital rounds. Members of the team include a medical student, first and second year residents, and the chief resident.

This course is intended for students interested in pursuing family medicine as a career, or for students wishing to acquire a broadly-based medical background before training in another specialty. The student will participate in inpatient and outpatient care in the family medicine clinic and in the hospital. This course provides opportunities for students to participate in the delivery of medical care, mainly in the ambulatory setting.

Students will attend lectures and regularly scheduled noon conferences, make bedside rounds in the Intensive Care Unit and the Coronary Units with staff and residents, and do complete patient work-ups including medical interviews and physicial examinations. This course will increase the students understanding of cardiovascular disease and enable participation in various treatment modalities.

This individually designed outpatine rotation is for medical student who are interested in learning about the urban comunity and the relationship of the medical professional within the community. The rotation combines clinical work in an urban setting clinic with a series of experiences in the community. Students must contact the course director 2 months prior to the start of the rotation.

The course is designed to give the student experience in athletic injury diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation, an overview of the role of exercise in health promotion and chronic disease therapy, and medical issues in sports. This course is an opportunity for the student interested in primary care or a musculoskeletal specialty to develop an appreciation for the role of sports medicine in his/her practice. The student will work slocsely with full-time sports medicine physicians and allied health providers, including physical theraposts and athletic trainers. This will include work in an office practice, rehabilitation facilities, training rooms and various athletic events.
