Student will work on the Family Medicine Teaching Service 441 bed acute care regional hospital with a team consisting of an attending, senior resident and 2 interns. Students will have exposure to all critical care units.

This course exposes the student to several aspects of inpatient neonatal care. The student becomes familiar with normal newborn behavior and care requirements, develops some proficiency in recognizing and treating neonatal illness and learns techniques necessary for stabilization and transport of the sick newborn.

Offers the medical student an opportunity for one-on-one teaching with a general surgeon. it combines hosptial and office experience. Attends rounds and patient management responsibilities. Opportunity to assist in operating room and emergency room. Student will complete a history and physical on patients assigned and utilize the information to attend. Student will be expected to suggest possible solutions to the problems defined.

Student receives instruction and experience in all branches of radiological science. Emphasis on imaging techniques, including radiography, fluroscopy, nuclear medicine and therapeutic testing using radiation. Approximately 3/4 of this course is devoted to diagnostic radiology. Remaining time is divided among nuclear medicine, ultrasound and radiation theory.

Through didactic and clinical office, clinical and hospital experiences, the student will be introduced to the interpretation of electrocardiograms, echo cardiograms and other graphic studies including stress testing, the role of consultant in the evaluation and management of selected cardiac patients presenting acute or chronic cardiovascular disorders. Student will elicit and conduct detailed histories and physicals and present findings, and participate in cadiology conferences.

Provide an active, yet academic introduction to emergency department patient care. Emphasis on recognizing emergencies, rapidly and thoroughly evaluate the patient and effectively outline a treatment plan. The student will learn about the stress of the emergency situation on both medical staff and patients and hopefully remember that compassion and understanding are crucial physician attributes.

Recognize clinical problems in allergy-immunology. Gather historical data, proper examinations, performa nd analyze allergy workup. 4 hours of patient care minimum. Participants in emergency treatment and hospital consultations. Learn the rudiments of allergey skin testing and pulmonary function testing. Each patient contact will be thoroughly reviewed by the instructor and a complete write-up of each new patient work-up will be graded.
