It is easy to apply for AAFP CME and CNE credit when sponsoring an ALSO Course -- and there is no fee to apply.
The online application process for ALSO Courses has been streamlined as well. Simply type or select "ALSO" throughout the online application to auto-populate many required fields with the appropriate information.
Sponsors must clearly designate the precise number of credits. The maximum number of credits will be based on actual hours of eligible content. Agenda must include a 15 minute break for every four hours of learning.
Before you can apply for CME/CNE credit, your course must be approved by the ALSO Program Staff. Complete and email an ALSO Course Request form to seek approval for the course you wish to sponsor.

After an approval email has been received from ALSO staff, you are ready to submit the online CME Application. Completion of the online CME application is not only required for CME/CNE credit, but also to ensure updates to all participant/faculty records, and to issue certificates and wallet cards for participants after the course.
With the CME credit application, a course brochure or schedule must be provided which includes planned lectures, workstations, and scheduled lunch and other breaks, with time frames for all. CME credit will be determined from this information.
Immediately upon approval, an email from AAFP CME Credit Systems will be sent to the submitter. This process can take up to four weeks. The credit statement and number of credits awarded as stated in the approval email will need to be included on all course promotional materials.
All applications are reviewed independent of any prior CME credit calculations or CME credit determinations. Application must be submitted and approved with new agenda each year before any CME statement can be used on brochures or other promotional items.
If CME application has been submitted, but approval is still pending at the time of promotion, you may use the following statement on your materials until you receive an approval letter:
Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending.
**Available for ALSO Provider Courses only **
CNE credit is determined from the same application submitted for CME credit. The CNE statement will also be included on the approval email from the AAFP CME Credit Systems.
If your course is open to nurses, the CNE statement MUST be included on all promotional materials. Additionally, copies of promotional materials must to emailed to ALSO staff to be kept on file, as required by the Kansas State Board of Nursing (KSBN).
The ALSO Program has been approved for CNE by the Kansas State Board of Nursing. It is the responsibility of sponsors to complete, scan, and email the Nurse Roster(2 page DOC) to ALSO staff within one week of the course. Nurse signatures for both days of the course must be included on the roster.
If the Nurse Roster is not completed and returned within one week of the course, nurse attendees will receive a certificate of completion, but will not be eligible to receive CNE credit for the course.
A Nurse Roster template is also available on the ALSO Course Materials CD-ROM. This roster meets the requirements of two stated sections of the Nurse Practice Act Statutes and Administrative Regulations:
60-9-107 (f) (1) Each provider shall maintain documentation to verify that each participant attended the offering. The provider shall require each participant to sign a daily roster, which shall contain the following information:
A) The provider's name, address, provider number, and coordinator.
B) The date and title of the offering, and the presenter or presenters; and
C) The participant's name and license number, and the number of contact hours awarded.
60-9-107 (3) Each approved single offering CNE provider shall submit to the board the original signature roster and a typed, alphabetized roster of individuals who have completed an offering.
