"Excellent experience with METRIC. Done as a collaborative with multiple groups in our health system with regular phone meeting support, which was very helpful. Team approach within the office was crucial."

FAQs for Practice Groups
Can we review performance measures before selecting a module?
Yes, you can review the performance measures for each METRIC module. Download the METRIC performance measures(1 page PDF).
How do I proceed if there are missing AAFP ID numbers in the group?
AAFP METRIC staff will locate AAFP ID numbers for physicians. Please expect a slight delay in the normal processing time.
If a group member is not an AAFP member, may he or she still participate?
AAFP non-members are welcome to participate. Physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants will find value in this program.
Is providing an email address essential?
Yes. The AAFP METRIC program requires a valid address to communicate with each participant. The program uses the email address stored in the AAFP membership database.
In order for non-members to purchase the module, an AAFP account must be created. The account must include a valid email address. Call the AAFP Contact Center to set up an account: (800)274-2237.
Is it possible to preview METRIC modules to facilitate determination of the most appropriate module for my group?
A METRIC test drive opportunity is available that allows a preview of all AAFP METRIC modules.
Contact AAFP METRIC staff at metric@aafp.org or (800)274-2237 and request a test drive.
What is the cost for medical practice sites to participate in METRIC as a group?
AAFP members register for $25 each and non-member physicians register for $75 each. Non-member allied health care professionals register for $25 each.
If the practice would like custom data reports, additional administrative fees may apply. Please contact us with your needs at metric@aafp.org or by calling (800)274-2237.
How many people does it take to form a group?
The minimum number to form a group is three people.
How can my group participate in more than one module?
Options for a group of 15 in multiple modules include, but are not limited to:
- Five people participate in three different modules OR
- Three people participate in five different modules.
The group report incorporates all the different modules in which your practice is participating.
How can our group enter more than ten charts?
Each individual may enter up to 50 patient charts both during the baseline and during the re-assessment phases for up to 100 patient charts per module. Simply note on your group enrollment form the number of charts your group would like to enter.
Must the entire group select the same intervention in the Action Plan?
No. The group may elect to have everyone select the same intervention(s), or the individual physician may choose his or her own interventions and remain part of the group.
Is there a way for the assessment data to be downloaded electronically?
At this time, it is not possible to electronically download data to the METRIC program from another location.
How do I view collated data for my entire group?
There are two ways to view aggregated group results: within the METRIC program or by requesting specific data reports, particularly if the group is part of a quality improvement initiative. Custom data report samples(6 page PDF) are available.
For either option, start by contacting METRIC staff at metric@aafp.org or (800) 274-2237.
What is the standard group report; how is it used?
The standard group tracking report(1 page PDF) is a list of all physicians in the group along with a date stamp of each step in the METRIC module they completed.
Quality improvement initiative leaders can easily monitor the progress of the group in accomplishing each step in the program.
