CME Credit for BLSOSM Courses
It's easy to apply for AAFP CME credit when you sponsor a BLSO Provider Course, and there is no fee to apply. Also, the online CME credit application process for a BLSO Provider Course has been streamlined for your convenience.
(Important tip: in the "Activity type" field on the CME credit application form, select "Basic Life Support in Obstetrics" to automatically populate many of the fields.)
CME Credit Approval
Before you can apply for AAFP CME credit, your BLSO Provider Course must be approved by the AAFP BLSO staff. Your first step is to complete and submit a BLSO Course Request Form(2 page DOC) for the course you wish to sponsor.
After you receive a BLSO Provider Course approval email from BLSO staff, you are ready to submit an online application for AAFP CME credit. This ensures AAFP staff can add CME course credit to participant and faculty member records, issue course completion certificates to all participants, and send out wallet cards to those who passed.
On your online application, you must clearly designate the exact number of requested CME credits for your BLSO Provider Course. In addition to the application, you must submit a course brochure or agenda that lists a title and timeframe for each planned lecture and workstation, as well as timeframes for lunch and other scheduled breaks. A 15-minute break is required for every four hours of learning. The number of CME credits approved by the AAFP will be determined on the basis of actual hours of eligible content.
All applications are reviewed independent of any prior CME credit calculations or CME credit determinations. For recurring courses, an application must be submitted with a new agenda and be approved each year before any CME statement can be used on brochures or other promotional items.
Approval of CME credit can take up to four weeks. It must be obtained prior to the date of your BLSO Provider Course. You will receive notification of approval by email from AAFP CME Credit Systems. The notification will include an official credit statement that indicates the number of approved credits for your BLSO Provider Course.
You may use the following statement on your promotional materials if you have submitted an online application for CME credit but approval is still pending:
Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending.
Once you receive notification of approval, the official CME credit statement and number of approved credits must be included on all course promotional materials.
