Assembly Sessions – Population-based Care: Genetic Testing and Counseling, CME177, CME178
Professor Philp is a geneticist who specializes in human genetics and genetic testing. He is an Affiliate Scientist with the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics, and the National Society of Genetic Counselors. Professor Philp believes that direct-to-consumer testing, physician-driven changes in testing decisions, and genetics education for physicians are the most significant trends in the field of genetics today. He says that addressing changes in genetic testing and adopting new technologies are family medicine’s greatest challenges today. In September 2013, Professor Philp will leave Des Moines University to begin study in a genetic counseling program at the Center for Genetic Medicine, Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL.
