Provide oversight of the planning, onsite responsibilities and evaluation of the AAFP’s annual meeting (FMX) CME learning activities.

The FMX Advisory Board is looking for qualified applicants to provide planning oversight, participate in on-site responsibilities, and evaluate the Family Medicine Experience’s (FMX’s) CME learning opportunities.

Purpose:

The purpose of the FMX Advisory Board is to provide oversight of the planning, onsite responsibilities and evaluation of the AAFP’s annual meeting (FMX) CME learning activities.


Key Responsibilities/Estimated Time Commitment of Advisory Board Members:

  • Review and apply the curriculum and format recommendations from AAFP stakeholders to determine final FMX Educational Plan. (2 hours of orientation, plus 2 hours over a 2-week period in January)
  • Assist AAFP staff with needs assessment review and writing. (5 hours over a 4-month period from April - July)
  • Provide content review and feedback for FMX faculty, as requested by FMX faculty and/or AAFP CME staff. Complete a content review form, and provide additional guidance to faculty, as needed. (Variable – assume 12 hours over 3-month period from June - August)
  • Act as a faculty liaison for FMX faculty before and during FMX, as requested by FMX Advisory Board Chair. (5 hours over 3 month period from July – September/October)
  • Provide support and mentorship to new FMX faculty. (Variable – approximately 10 hours over 3-month period from July – September/October)
  • Attend FMX and provide onsite support and activity monitoring at AAFP expense. (7 days—2 days are travel days; 10+ hours per day on non-travel days in September/October)
  • Participate in the FMX proposal review and selection process, including faculty selection, poster presenter selection and CME sessions. (1 virtual meeting per year; meeting length 4 hours, prep time for meeting an additional 4 hours in December)
  • Act as liaison to AAFP staff and FMX faculty.

Key Expectations of Advisory Board Members:

  • Active in the specialty of family medicine.
  • Board certified in Family Medicine.
  • Active or Lifetime member of the AAFP.
  • Current Conflict of Interest forms on file with the AAFP. (Members may not have a financial relationships with a commercial interest)
  • Understanding of accredited CME and adult learning principles.
  • Experience developing AAFP CME activities, and/or other CME activities on the respective topic.
  • Collaboration skills and experience.
  • Leadership skills and experience, including a willingness to collaborate and build consensus.
  • Current members of the AAFP’s Board of Directors, Commission on Continuing Professional Development (COCPD) or National Live Course Chairs are not eligible for the position.

Key Facts

Time Commitment: 1-year term OR 2-year term

Compensation: Annual honorarium of $2,000

Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to, the following):

  • Review and apply the curriculum and format recommendations from AAFP stakeholders to help develop the final FMX Education Plan

  • Attend FMX (registration provided) and provide onsite support and activity monitoring
  • Provide support and mentorship to new FMX faculty

Selection Process:

Selection will be made by application, and based on the key qualifications, as noted above.


Terms of Engagement:

For this inaugural class of FMX Advisory Board members, two individuals are sought to serve a one-year term, and one individual is sought to serve a two-year term. Terms will be offset to ensure continuity through on-boarding of new Advisory Board Members.

For individuals interested in returning as a member of the Advisory Board, those members must have taken one, three-year cycle away from the Advisory Board before applying again. Advisory Board members who wish to apply for Advisory Board Chair may serve consecutive terms, or are not required to have a three-year waiting period between terms.


Staff Engagement:

The FMX Advisory Board Members will work under the direction of the FMX Advisory Board Chair, and in conjunction with the AAFP staff.


Time Commitment and Compensation:

Annual honorarium of $2,000 made in 2 installments beginning June 2017.
