Prerequisites for Acceptance:
Graduate of an accredited family practice residency program or certification by the ABFP; proficiency in nonoperative obstetrics during training or practice; and desire/ability to be trained in operative obstetrics.Application Deadline: 11/01/07

Fellows spend 70% of their time in the role of an urban referral hospital with approximately 5,000 births/year. Ultrasound, suction curettage, postpartum tubal ligations, and neonatology training available. 30% of their time is spent teaching family medicine/women's health to residents and students, and seeing patients in one of the country's best university FP programs. OB call is 3-5 nights per month. The fellowship will prepare the family physician to gain competence in most aspects of antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care and operative vaginal deliveries (forceps and vacuum extraction). The fellowship graduate will have obtained sufficent training to competently perform Cesarean section deliveries with adequate obstetric or surgical backup.
