Academy bestows awards
During the AAFP Annual Assembly, the following awards were presented:
- Honorary Membership -- the AAFP's highest honor -- professor Julio Ceitlin of Buenos Aires, Argentina; and professor Wesley Fabb of Melbourne, Australia
- Awards of Merit -- Roger Sherwood, executive director, Society of Teachers of Family Medicine; Ann Kane, C.A.E., executive vice president, New Mexico AFP; and Jean Larson, executive director, Missouri AFP
- Exemplary Teaching Awards -- Edward Bope, M.D., of Columbus, Ohio (full-time); Francesca Taylor, M.D., of Los Angeles (part-time); and Terry Lowe, M.D., of Hattiesburg, Miss., and Charles O'Donnell, D.O., of Wichita, Kan. (volunteers)
- Family Physician of the Year -- Cathy Baldwin-Johnson, M.D., of Wasilla, Alaska
- Humanitarian Awards -- Alain Montegut, M.D., of Portland, Maine; and Daniel Ostergaard, M.D., AAFP vice president for international and interprofessional activities
- John G. Walsh Award -- Robert Higgins, M.D., of Anacortes, Wash.
- Thomas W. Johnson Award -- William Jacott, M.D., of Minneapolis
- President's Awards -- Sanford Bloom, M.D., of Santa Barbara, Calif.; Linda Farley, M.D., of Verona, Wis.; and Cynthia Haq, M.D., of Madison, Wis.
- Public Health Award -- Louis Kazal Jr., M.D., of Chevy Chase, Md.
