Academy delegates choose new leaders, ABFP finalists

The AAFP Congress of Delegates elected Mary Frank, M.D., of Mill Valley, Calif., to the post of president-elect. The delegates' action Oct. 2 marks the first time a woman has been chosen to lead the Academy (see story, "New president-elect is -- first and foremost -- a family physician" ).

Others elected or chosen by acclamation for the following positions are:

Speaker of the Congress -- Carolyn Lopez, M.D., of Chicago
Vice speaker -- Thomas Weida, M.D., of Hershey, Pa.
Directors -- James King, M.D., of Selmer, Tenn.; Thomas Kintanar, M.D., of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and Timothy Komoto, M.D., of Mendota Heights, Minn.
New physician Board member -- Lisa Corum, M.D., of Fort Mill, S.C.
Resident Board member -- Saria Carter, M.D., of Davie, Fla.
Student Board member -- Eddie Turner of Nashville, Tenn.
Finalists for the AAFP position on the board of directors of the American Board of Family Practice -- Ross Black II, M.D., of Cleveland; Richard Hays, M.D., of Lake Worth, Fla.; and Tanya Jones, M.D., of Atlanta (the ABFP board will choose one finalist next spring to serve on the board for five years).
