To the editor:

I read the Special Section, "Caring for America's Aging Population," in the February 2004 FP Report with great interest.

As a home care physician, I see patients exclusively in their homes. My patients cannot easily get to a physician's office, and for them to wait in a waiting room would be humiliating, painful and dangerous.

Therefore, when I saw the special section dealt with the elderly, I was pleased. I noticed, however, that there was no mention of home care physicians in the special section.

I feel that our services are extremely important to a more or less ignored segment of the population, namely the aged bed-bound and infirm. I would encourage you to consider including home care medical practice at least as a resource if not an important part of caring for America's aging population.

David Weber, M.D.
Memphis, Tenn.
