Academy announces physician EHR coalition at summit
"The Decade of Health
Information Technology: Delivering Consumer-centric and Information-rich Health
Care," recently released by HHS' national coordinator for health information
technology, outlines a broad 10-year initiative that includes four major goals
and strategic action plans to reach each of those goals. Those goals are
to:
- inform clinical practice at the point of care by implementing
EHR systems in physicians' practices and hospitals;
- interconnect clinicians with an interoperable health information
infrastructure so that records "follow" patients, allowing physicians access to
patients' health information;
- personalize care using health IT to give patients more access
and an opportunity to become more involved in health care decisions; and
- improve people's health by using health IT to monitor public
health, measure quality of care and move research advances quickly into medical
practice.
