Academy offers ways to show off 50 years
You can help the Academy celebrate its golden anniversary this year:
- The Academy is offering several new ways to wear your Academy pride
on your sleeve or your chest or your coffee mug.
Among the new apparel
items celebrating the Academy's golden anniversary are: a cotton sweatshirt
guaranteed to keep you warm, a clipper jacket in unisex sizes from extra small
to double extra large, and men's and women's long-sleeved denim shirts. All of
these items feature the Academy's 50th anniversary logo.
- The 50th anniversary lapel pin is available now for $10. Sales
benefit (1) the AAFP Foundation's Resident Repayment Program, which pays
interest on educational loans for family practice residents who commit to
practice in underserved areas or to teach family medicine, and (2) AAFP's
annual Feed the Need program, which helps homeless and hungry people in the
Assembly's host city. Production of the pin is supported in part by a grant
from SmithKline Beecham.
- Order your copies of Caring for America: The Story of Family
Practice, the commemorative book to be published in April. Through text and
photographs, the 128-page book will chronicle the history of family practice,
present vignettes on a diverse selection of today's FPs, and provide a brief
history of the AAFP. You can order copies for $40 each; proceeds benefit the
AAFP Foundation General Endowment Fund. The book is funded in part by a grant
from Glaxo Wellcome Inc.
- Family Physicians Care for America Week, Oct. 20-26, is your
opportunity to publicize the specialty and your practice through community
projects. A free planning kit with a how-to section, project ideas, and
publicity materials is available on request. This program is supported in part
by a grant from Zeneca Pharmaceuticals.
