Paper defends FPs' colposcopy rights
The Academy just published "Colposcopy by Family Physicians" -- the fourth position paper designed to help FPs gain privileges.
Family physicians Barbara Apgar, M.D., of Ann Arbor, Mich., and John Pfenninger, M.D., of Midland, Mich., wrote the paper. They review scope of practice, note indications for colposcopy, and discuss training, proof of proficiency, and privileges.
Then they say, "Performing the procedure may be the easiest part. Caring for the whole patient and having an impact on changing lifestyle may be the most difficult aspect, although the most important."
