Physicians With Heart takes medical supplies to Siberia
Physicians With Heart, a joint effort of the Academy, AAFP Foundation and the humanitarian organization Heart to Heart International, will take its sixth annual shipment of medical supplies to the former Soviet Union Oct. 3-13.
This year's project is divided into two phases. In the first phase, the delegation will deliver medical supplies and equipment -- including pharmaceuticals, stethoscopes, otoscopes and blood pressure cuffs -- to Siberia.
Academy members and other participants on the mission will tour recipient hospitals, documenting the safe arrival of supplies and conducting updates. Two day-long medical seminars will take place in Novosibirsk and Akademgorodok on the nature of U.S. family practice.
The second phase, which is scheduled for the spring, will take additional medical supplies and equipment to Uzbekistan.
