New AAFP program helps develop cultural proficiency

In light of today's heightened awareness of the need to appreciate cultural diversity, a new Academy learning package, "Quality Care for Diverse Populations," offers an invaluable opportunity to update your cultural competency.

The program is available in individual or group training formats, so you can educate your office staff or residency program about the importance of dealing knowledgeably and sensitively with ethnic and sociocultural differences in your patients.

The program comprises five vignettes depicting simulated patient-physician office visits, accompanied by collateral materials describing the cultural determinants at play in each encounter. Learning objectives, discussion questions, a resource list and pre- and post-test questions keyed to each encounter complete the package.

To order, contact the AAFP order department at 800/944-0000 and ask for item 724 (CD-ROM) or item 723 (VHS tape).
