AAFP bestows honors and recognizes
achievements
Each year, the Academy bestows honors and
awards on its members and others during the Annual Assembly. The recipient of
the Family Physician of the Year award -- Eric Ossowski, M.D., of Scottsdale,
Ariz., -- was reported in the Tuesday-Wednesday issue of this newspaper. In
addition, the following awards have been presented during this Assembly:
- Honorary Membership -- AAFP's highest honor -- Karen Carter
of Leawood, Kan.; and JoAnn Rockufeler of Leawood, Kan.
- Exemplary Teaching Awards -- Penny Tenzer, M.D., of Miami,
Fla. (full time); Cathy Carpenter, M.D., of York, Pa. (part time); and Steven
Penner, M.D., of Wichita, Kan. (volunteer)
- John G. Walsh Award -- Robert Taylor, M.D., of Portland,
Ore.
- Public Health Award -- Kathleen Toomey, M.D., M.P.H., of
Atlanta
- Robert Graham Family Physician Executive Award -- Robert
Nesse, M.D., of Mantorville, Minn.
- Thomas W. Johnson Award -- Joseph Hobbs, M.D., of Augusta,
Ga.
