RPS Consultation Service

About the Consultants

All Residency Program Solutions consultants base their recommendations on national standards, not subjective notions based on individual experiences and biases. Consults carefully guard the confidential, non-punitive and voluntary nature of the consulting process. This enhances information-sharing and fosters a collaborative process to the ultimate benefit of your program.

The Residency Program Solutions process consists of three steps:

“The great thing about the consultation was having someone to listen who had “been there” so to speak. Our consultant brought documents used in their residency that we were able to benefit from during and after our site visit. We would have enjoyed having the consultant for a whole week!”

Pre-Site Process

Residency Program Solutions makes the most effective use of your time and budget by identifying specific needs areas, which enables the most efficient use of your time during the site visit.

Contact us -- whether you are a program director, department chair, medical school dean or hospital CEO. With your first phone call, Residency Program Solutions staff can help you determine the type of consult that is right for you. Your consultation can be as broad as the Overall Program Review or as specific as the Rural Training Track. Choose the Program Impact consultation with key financial metrics to help you demonstrate your program's value to the sponsoring hospital and the surrounding community, or the Focused Financial Issues consultation to target specific financial concerns. Review the many commonly requested consultations for ideas that may help jump-start your plans.

Because Residency Program Solutions' consultants are family medicine residency educators, they know the issues you face and can direct you to the right solutions the first time.

Tell us about your program. You’ll receive the Residency Program Solutions pre-site questionnaire for your completion, the foundation for a successful site visit. The pre-site questionnaire is comprehensive but not cumbersome. You probably already have the information readily available or can easily obtain it from your own institutional staff.

Site Visit

A site visit is typically scheduled for two days. The consultant will work with you to determine an appropriate agenda, which may include meetings and “walking-around” time. The consultant can also respond to any issues that are revealed during the visit but not indicated in the questionnaire.

The Consultation Report

The Residency Program Solutions report is tailored to address your program’s specific needs with recommendations you can implement immediately. And we remain your resource after the report is mailed. We’ll answer follow-up questions and provide additional support as needed following your consult.

Typically, you’ll receive a report within a few weeks of the site visit.

“The consultant had tremendous ability in working with me, the faculty, and the program in identifying strengths, weaknesses, and discussed plans to address these weaknesses in a non-threatening fashion.”
