Resident Credit System Consultant to the COCPD
NOTE: This position is filled. Applications will be accepted in 2018 for the 2019-20 (two-year) term.
Bring the resident perspective to the Commission on Continuing Professional Development's special project by influencing the direction of the AAFP’s Credit System as it looks to evolve the standards for Continuing Medical Education. The resident is expected to keep the COCPD up to date on how medical students and residents learn and how they expect/want to learn in the future.
The American Academy of Family Physicians Continuing Medical Education (CME) Credit System certifies CME activities for AAFP credit under the direction of the COCPD.
Time commitment away from medical school: Approximately seven days (includes weekends) for travel and attendance at meetings
Funding: Travel covered according to AAFP Travel Policy. A per diem covers expenses to travel to and attend the meeting, including lodging and food.
Commission on Continuing Professional Development
The scope of work of the Commission on Continuing Professional Development (COCPD) includes American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) continuing medical education (CME) accreditation (of various categories); development, presentation, maintenance and refinement of existing and novel CME/continuing professional development (CPD) delivery methods and modalities; CME/CPD aspects of Maintenance of Certification (MOC) and Maintenance of Licensure (MOL); performance improvement CME (PI-CME); AAFP CME curricular framework and AAFP Assembly CME/CPD (oversight planning and evaluation of all CME offered as part of the AAFP Assembly.) It is composed of a chair, 16 active members, one resident member, one student member and one chapter executive. The commission has two subcommittees: Assembly Learning and Credit Systems and Compliance.
The Commission on Continuing Professional Development works directly to support the AAFP’s Strategic Objective on Education by supporting the lifelong learning of family physicians and other health care professionals. The goals of the commission are to guide the Academy’s accreditation and provision of continuing medical education that helps learners demonstrate continuous improvements in knowledge, competence, practice performance, and patient outcomes, as well as fulfill the educational requirements for licensure and certification.
