Family physicians are scrambling to learn everything they can about how to participate in CMS' Quality Payment Program, the next phase of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA).
Certain deadlines are fast approaching -- including the Oct. 2 cutoff for physicians to begin data collection to participate in the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), one of two new payment tracks.
There's plenty to learn, so why not earn some CME in the process? Here's the rundown on available opportunities.
MACRA Supplement Bundle
The AAFP has been working for many months developing resources to help family physicians understand all things MACRA -- including the creation of a series of four-page supplements chock full of need-to-know information, tips and graphics.
The individual pieces are now available as a collection. The "Making Sense of MACRA: Supplements Bundle" is available to AAFP members for free. Non-members pay $100.
Earn up to 3.0 AAFP Prescribed credits for completing this CME activity, and learn how to avoid a negative Medicare payment adjustment in 2019.
MACRA Sessions at FMX
The AAFP's 2017 Family Medicine Experience will be held Sept. 12-16 in San Antonio, Texas. Family physicians from across the country will gather for great speakers, events, networking, hands-on learning and a multitude of other learning opportunities including five live CME sessions on topics related to MACRA.
Look for these specific sessions as you review registration materials:
- "MACRA: Medicare's Shift to Value-based Delivery & Payment Models,"
- "Your Prescription for MIPS,"
- "Patient Attribution: Why It Matters Now More Than Ever,"
- "What is Risk? Am I Ready for Advanced Alterative Payment Models?" and
- "Harnessing the Power of Primary Care Access to Improve Cost of Care."
Up to 1.0 AAFP Prescribed credit is available for each completed session.
The AAFP also has planned a three-hour conference devoted entirely to MACRA.
Register now for the "Making Sense of MACRA conference" in Phoenix, scheduled for 1-4 p.m. MST on Oct. 26 and again on Oct. 27. An early-bird discount is available through Sept. 27.
This meeting was scheduled to align with other activities taking place at the same location to accommodate physicians who want to take full advantage of a weekend of learning. (Family physicians may already be in Phoenix for the Academy's Adult Medicine live course, Oct. 25-28, or for one of the Knowledge Self-Assessment Working Group meetings -- Oct. 28 [Cerebrovascular Disease] or Oct. 29 [Care of the Vulnerable Elderly].)
The MACRA event features expert AAFP presenters who intend to get physicians ready for success in the new world of value-based payment. Speakers will pay special attention to the MIPS performance categories, reporting requirements and scoring.
Attendees will have the opportunity to get their questions answered during a scheduled Q&A.
The conference is approved for up to 3.0 AAFP Prescribed credits.
