Free AAFP Webinar Prepares FPs for Quality Payment Program

September 08, 2017 02:33 pm Sheri Porter

The AAFP is determined to get family physicians ready for big changes happening in Medicare payment. So if you are not fully prepared for value-based payment -- or know a colleague who has questions -- put an upcoming AAFP webinar on your calendar right now.

[Free Webinar on bulletin board]

The webinar, titled "Medicare Payment Changes: Are You Ready?" is scheduled for Sept. 28 from 1-2 p.m. CDT. Registration is open(register.gotowebinar.com) for this webinar, and it is free to AAFP members.

Webinar moderator Amy Mullins, M.D., serves as the AAFP's medical director of quality improvement and is the Academy's expert on all things related to the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA).

With more than a decade of experience as a practicing family physician in Texas, including a stint as medical director of the Trinity Clinic in Whitehouse, Texas, Mullins understands the angst many family physicians feel as they work to understand MACRA's Quality Payment Program (QPP).

She'll spend time exploring the QPP's two payment tracks -- the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) and advanced alternative payment models (AAPMs). Mullins will make sure that physicians understand the payment adjustments associated with MIPS as well as the criteria they must meet to quality for AAPMs.

Most importantly, Mullins will make it very clear what actions physicians need to take right now to avoid receiving a negative Medicare payment adjustment in 2019.

She'll leave some time for questions at the end, so don't be shy about asking for clarification.

Physicians who can't make the live webinar can access an archived version at a later date.
