The Academy's wholly owned subsidiary, TransforMED, is offering AAFP members a discount on a one-year membership in its Delta-Exchange(www.transformed.com) practice transformation learning network. The AAFP member price of $164.89 represents a 56 percent discount off the $360 yearly rate Delta-Exchange users currently pay.

"This is TransforMED's first attempt at providing an annual discount for (the Delta-Exchange) service," said Nathan Bieck, TransforMED's marketing coordinator and chief architect of the Delta-Exchange site, which launched in August 2009.

Delta-Exchange offers participants access to patient-centered medical home resources, including

  • information on best practices,
  • interactive and on-demand webinars,
  • expert panels of practice facilitators and experienced patient-centered medical home peers, and
  • customizable forms and practice templates to help streamline office processes.

"Delta-Exchange wasn't just created on a whim," said Bieck. "It's based on solid learnings gained from TransforMED's experiences with primary care practices around the country during the past five years.

"We know that transforming a practice into a medical home is hard and that it takes massive change throughout the whole practice. We've also learned that practices and their staff members can feel isolated and alone in that work."

The Delta-Exchange network offers primary care practices "a place to communicate, to collaborate and to learn from each other," said Bieck.

According to TransforMED President and CEO Terry McGeeney, M.D., M.B.A., many solo and small-practice physicians have a do-it-yourself attitude, and Delta-Exchange helps facilitate that entrepreneurial spirit. "Our members asked for a low-cost option for this kind of peer-to-peer learning, and that's exactly what we're giving them," said McGeeney.

Delta-Exchange is "an active, online learning community and an exclusive network of primary care physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, medical assistants, practice managers, care coordinators, and primary care-focused residency and educational programs," said McGeeney.

He also pointed out that membership in Delta-Exchange is not available to vendors of any kind, including pharmaceutical and insurance company representatives.

Bieck noted that AAFP members need to sign up for a year and pay the discounted rate upfront. But if they are not completely satisfied, they can cancel within 30 days and receive a full refund.
