Thousands of family physicians around the country own their practices and are considered small business owners. For those physicians, the passage and ongoing implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act have raised a plethora of questions about how the law affects their businesses.
Now, a free webinar from TransforMED seeks to answer family physicians' questions about how the Affordable Care Act (ACA) will affect them and their employees and offer solutions.
The one-hour webinar, titled Small Business Health Insurance Options: What the ACA Means for Your Practice, is scheduled for Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. CST, and registration is now open(transformed.adobeconnect.com).
Tim Gaudette, the western outreach manager for a national, nonprofit advocacy organization called Small Business Majority, will serve as moderator for the webinar. The company is dedicated to helping small businesses identify and resolve a variety of issues, including questions about the ACA.
The organization conducts research that enables staff members, such as Gaudette, to engage with small business owners, policy experts and elected officials around the country and effectively bring the concerns of America's small business owners to the public policy table.
Gaudette's background in finance and investment-related work in regulatory and research fields have provided him with extensive knowledge that he plans to share with webinar participants.
"This interactive presentation will focus on what the new health care law, the Affordable Care Act, means for small businesses across the nation," Gaudette told AAFP News Now. "It will focus on both federal and state provisions to help local small business owners understand how the law will affect them."
For example, Gaudette will discuss
- eligibility for small business tax credits and how to claim them,
- workings of federal and state-based small business marketplaces,
- best practices for cost containment, and
- availability of tools and resources to help small business owners understand and fulfill their responsibilities tied to the ACA.
Gaudette plans to leave ample time for participants' questions.
As always, the webinar will be archived for later viewing for physicians unable to tune in to the live event.
