Just about one year ago, the AAFP and TransforMED offered family physicians an introductory webinar to expose them to basic elements of meaningful use stage two requirements. Now it's time to really get down to business preparing for requirements poised to take effect in 2014.
Join Jason Mitchell, M.D., director of the AAFP's Center for Health IT, and Steven Waldren, M.D., M.S., senior strategist for the center, for a free webinar titled, "Meaningful Use Stage 2; Understanding Key Changes."
The webinar is scheduled for Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. CST and registration is now open(www.delta-exchange.net).
Mitchell told AAFP News that the pair intends to focus on specific issues that could be problematic for family physicians. "We have a lot more information now about what specific measures look like and what physicians need to do," said Mitchell. "We also have a better understanding of the technology necessary for electronic health record (EHR) systems to be certified. We know the vendor market, who has a product that is ready and useable, and who doesn't."
Mitchell said that during the webinar, he and his co-presenter will
- discuss constriction in the vendor market that most likely will mean a change in product for some family physicians,
- share a structured format aimed at helping physicians better understand the multiple measures that are part of meaningful use stage two and
- identify resources designed to ease the transition from meaningful use stage one to meaningful use stage two.
Despite the fact that the requirements for stage two are significantly more difficult, "We want meaningful use to be successful, and we want people to concentrate on completing the journey," said Mitchell.
Together, Mitchell and Waldren bring a wealth of health information technology knowledge to the table.
Waldren, a published author on health IT issues, currently has roles in a variety of health IT stakeholder groups and advisory boards. He's delivered more than 30 presentations focused on health IT issues in the past three years.
Since 2012, Mitchell has served as the AAFP's expert for family physicians looking for help related to medical office computerization, as well as EHR selection, implementation and optimization. Mitchell also holds membership in a number of organizations focused on health IT.
As always, the webinar will be archived for later viewing.
