Conrad L. Flick, M.D., FAAFP, a family physician in Raleigh, North Carolina, serves on the board of directors of the American Academy of Family Physicians. The AAFP represents more than 94,600 physicians and medical students nationwide. Flick was elected to a three-year term in October 2009 by the AAFP’s governing body, the Congress of Delegates.
As a board member of the AAFP, Flick advocates on behalf of family physicians and patients nationwide to inspire positive change in the U.S. health care system. Additionally, he works in private practice at Family Medical Associates of Raleigh, which he owns with two other physicians. He also serves as an associate professor and community preceptor in the Department of Community and Family Medicine at Duke University and as a community preceptor to medical students at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Bowman Gray Campus, Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
A member of the AAFP for more than 20 years, Flick has served on many committees and commissions, including the Commission on Governmental Advocacy and the Commission on Special Constituencies. Also a member of the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians since 1989, Flick served as its president and board chair. He served on the North Carolina AFP board of directors for more than five years. Additionally, he served on several state committees and has represented the chapter at the AAFP Congress of Delegates since 2003.
In addition to caring for patients and serving in leadership roles for the AAFP, Flick is active in other medical associations and organizations in his community. He currently serves as a governor-appointed board member of the North Carolina Health Care Quality Alliance. He also is chair of the Department of Medicine at Duke Raleigh Hospital. Flick has been an active member of the North Carolina Medical Society since 2001. He currently serves on its Legislative Executive Committee and its Task Force on Quality Care. Additionally, he serves on the board of the Key Independent Practice Association of Wake County, North Carolina.
Flick earned his undergraduate degree in zoology from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina, and his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina. He then completed his residency at North Carolina Baptist Hospital Family Medicine Residency in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and has the AAFP Degree of Fellow, an earned degree awarded to family physicians for distinguished service and continuing medical education.
