Robert M. Pallay, M.D., FAAFP

Robert M. Pallay, M.D., FAAFP, a family physician in Savannah, Ga., serves on the board of directors of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). Pallay was elected to a three-year term in September 2005 by the AAFP’s governing body, its Congress of Delegates. The AAFP represents nearly 94,000 physicians and medical students nationwide.

Pallay also serves as the program director of family medicine at Memorial Health University Medical Center and as professor and chair of the Department of Family Medicine at Mercer University School of Medicine, Savannah Campus.

Prior to his current position, Pallay cared for patients at a private practice in Hillsborough, N.J. He also served as a member of the Department of Family Medicine at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville, N.J., and at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. Pallay was a member of the Department of Family Medicine at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, N.J.

Pallay served as chief medical officer and president of the clinical trials division of Dimensional HealthCare in Cedar Knolls, N.J. He served for more than 10 years as medical director in the Primary Care Center of the Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Group. He was also vice chair, director of clinical operations and associate professor for the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School’s Department of Family Medicine. Before that, he owned and ran a private practice in Hillsborough, N.J., for 17 years.

Pallay has been a member of the AAFP since 1975. He served as the New Jersey delegate to the AAFP’s Congress of Delegates from 1997 to 2005. In recent years, he chaired the AAFP’s Commission on Health of the Public and served on the reference committees on Public Policy, Education and Public Health, as well as the Terrorism Preparedness Advisory Committee. Prior to that, he also served on the AAFP’s Finance Commission and its Task Force on AAFP Chapter Relations. He has also been a member of the executive committee for the Joint Commission on Sports Medicine and Science and was a member of the advisory panel for Americans in Motion (AIM), the AAFP’s fitness initiative, where he served as chairman for two years. Dr. Pallay was also on the State of New Jersey Public Health Council, appointed by Governor Christie Todd Whitman in 1997. He served as Chair from 2002 through 2006. Pallay currently serves as the AAFP Board Liaison to the AAFP’s Commission on Governmental Advocacy. He also serves on the board of trustees for the New Jersey Academy of Family Physicians Foundation.

Pallay earned his bachelor’s degree with honors from Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill. He earned his medical degree at Northwestern University Medical School, Chicago, and completed his residency at Somerset Medical Center, Somerville, N.J., where he served as a clinical preceptor for the program. He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and has the AAFP Degree of Fellow, an earned degree awarded to family physicians for distinguished service and continuing medical education.
