How are links from AAFP web sites to other sites chosen?
- They are expected to be of widespread interest to Academy members (family physicians, family medicine residents, and medical students) or their patients.
- They provide information that is relevant to the practice of family medicine.
- Preference is given to pages that include a family medicine or primary care orientation and preferably include areas specifically for family physicians.
- Although Web sites that charge money for access or sell products are not automatically excluded, sites providing information (and meeting the criteria above) will be favored over sites that only sell a product.
- Sites must be of good quality and meet standards of quality such as:
- Sites should list the authors' names and their credentials.
- All sources should be attributed.
- Site ownership should be clear as should sponsorship, advertising, and/or other funding arrangements.
- Content should be well maintained. The date the material was posted or updated should be noted.
- The Academy does not accept or require reciprocal links as a criteria for linkage. In other words, every link is chosen on merits and no linked page is required to provide a link to our page.
- Links to member's home pages are not included here.
- Meeting the above criteria does not guarantee linkage.
- The final decision for these lists to include a link, not to link, or to remove a link is reserved by the AAFP.
How do I suggest a link for the list?

What if I want to link to the Academy's site?
We believe that links ought to be made based on their merits. If you feel linking to our site would benefit your audience, feel free to do so, following the guidelines listed below.
- Except where authorized, no AAFP material may be downloaded onto your server or anyone else's server and may not be used in any electronic format.
- No AAFP content may be framed within any borders, banners or other visual images other than those placed by the AAFP itself.
- The link is an external one in that the AAFP URL is visible in the address window.
- The link should not be presented in such a way it might be perceived as a sign of the AAFP's endorsement of any web site or of the content within.
