Improving Primary Health Care in Albania

Improving Primary Health Care in Albania

In 2003, the AAFP, through the efforts of the International Activities office and the AAFP Center for International Health Initiatives Advisory Board, received a subcontract in cooperation with University Research Corporation, LLC, and Bearing Point for the USAID project Improving Primary Health Care in Albania. It is a three-year subcontract, renewable for two more years, to provide technical services in the development of primary health care and family medicine in Albania.

There have been three consultants who have visited Albania and worked with the project partners and the Albanian Ministry of Health on issues related to primary health care, educational models, and licensing and accreditation systems.

There are plans underway for additional activities, including a conference in which the AAFP may partner with the UK's Royal College of General Practitioners to assist the Albanian Ministry of Health further in developing their primary care physician licensing, accreditation and educational models.
