Members of the Physicians With Heart delegation arrived in Tbilisi, the capital of the republic of Georgia, at approximately 2:30 am local time on October 30th. After checking into a hotel and having breakfast, the group immediately went to work as a cargo plane carrying the donated shipment arrived in Tbilisi at 9:00 am.

More than $5 million worth of medicines and medical supplies is to be delivered to hospitals and clinics during the next several days. The delegation will divide into teams to visit the recipients and verify that the shipment has arrived safely.

At the Tbilisi airport, the Physicians With Heart delegation paused for a group picture as the shipment of donated pharmaceuticals and medical supplies was being unloaded. The cargo plane was chartered and paid for by the U.S. State Department.

At an airport news conference, James Martin, MD, past AAFP president and board chair, answered questions about the Physicians With Heart project for Georgian television and newspaper reporters. Georgian health care officials, representatives of the United States government, and other Physician With Heart leaders also spoke at the news conference.
