At the request of the U.S. Department of State, the Physicians With Heart partnership returned to the former Soviet Republic of Kyrgyzstan for its annual humanitarian project in 2008. A team of volunteers accompanied a valuable shipment of pharmaceuticals, medical instruments and supplies to document the safe arrival of the medical aid at recipient hospitals. They also participated in educational initiatives that promote family medicine as well as maternal health. In addition, several volunteers led a project aimed at improving the quality of life for Kyrgyz children.
