Physicians in Novosibirsk received a crash course in family medicine Oct. 9, when delegation members
from Physicians With Heart hosted a medical
symposium at the Novosibirsk Medical University.
"Providing information about family practice is a vital part of every airlift," said Daniel Ostergaard, M.D., AAFP vice president for education and scientific affairs. "This is our chance to discuss the importance of family practice directly with physicians."
The symposium was standing room only with more than 150 physicians and physicians-in-training crowding into a lecture hall at the university.
Delegation members AAFP President Neil Brooks, M.D., AAFP Foundation President Gerald Keller, M.D., former board member Ron Christensen, M.D., and Dan Van Durme, presented different perspectives about the life of a family physician in the United States.
Later the symposium broke into three sub-groups, each discussing different aspects of family medicine.
Ostergaard also presented Alexander Denim, M.D., university rector, with educational supplies to help his students learn more about family practice.
