Program Description
Recurring rotations available in Kenya, Mexico and Haiti.
In addition, residents have traveled throughout the world to locations including, but not limited to, Honduras, Guatemala, Ecuador, Peru, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Liberia, Rwanda and Moldova.

Location(s) of international program: Kenya, Mexico and Haiti
Description of field experience: Work in a variety of outpatient clinic settings. Some established in local communities, some are day clinics in villages or neighborhoods. There is also the ability to work with mission and government hospitals in an inpatient setting.
Description of didactics:
• Regular international medicine noon conference lectures.
• Detailed international health curriculum outlining various aspects of care in the developing world.
• Currently being developed: evening “chats” with interested residents discussing topics affecting global health.
Cost to individual resident: Varies. Our Foundation will assist residents with expenditures at the rate of $1500 per trip. There is also a personal business expense fund available to each resident that can help subsidize the cost of trips.
Number of residents who have participated in the last two years: 18
Description of faculty involvement: We have a director of our international health program who coordinates and facilitates the curriculum and travel. She also travels with teams to various locations. Additionally, other directors have been involved in leading teams. We also have graduates of our program who are faculty and have a significant involvement in the field training of residents, along with local physicians of various specialties who serve as mentors as well.
Does the program accept medical students for trips? Yes, US medical students have participated in our trips.
Does the program accept residents from outside the program for trips? No, not at this time.
